Recent Years

The school has continued to develop and thrive through all the political upheavals that followed the collapse of the Imperial Regime in 1974. During the communist period, it was impossible to have foreign volunteers - but this encouraged self-sufficiency, and enabled the school to be seen as a quality all-Ethiopian organisation, unencumbered by foreign ideology or methods.

The school is now an independent and private establishment, although none of the pupils pay any fees. Its land (although reduced in acreage in recent years) is held by secure title, and provides an oasis in the midst of urban noise.
